Copenhagen Editors' Fellowship 2025

Calling all editors with an interest in Danish literature! Copenhagen Editors’ Fellowship is your chance to meet Danish publishers on their home turf and immerse yourself in Danish culture.

DIVE INTO DANISH LITERATURE

As a participant in Copenhagen Editors' Fellowship, you'll be welcomed into our close-knit Danish family of literature lovers. You'll learn more about the literary landscape of the country that gave the world Tove Ditlevsen's ‘Copenhagen Trilogy,’ Olga Ravn's Booker-shortlisted THE EMPLOYEES and the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen, amongst other acclaimed works. Throughout the fellowship, you'll connect with fellow editors from around the globe and be introduced to Danish editors and publishers across the industry.

We endeavour to make the fellowship both professionally enlightening and socially enjoyable, as well as it being a chance to experience Copenhagen at its best, during the August summer months.

The professional purpose of the fellowship is to provide you with insight into the current literary tendencies in Danish publishing. Danish literature is known for its progressive approach to topics such as parenting, work-life balance, LGBTQ+ and the climate crisis, amongst other things. Your time in Copenhagen will include several cultural excursions, as well as giving you the chance to attend the prestigious international festival, Louisiana Literature, where authors such as Haruki Murakami, Zadie Smith, and Édouard Louis have been known to grace the stage. The festival takes place on the majestic coastline overlooking the Sound between Denmark and Sweden, not far from the historic city of Helsingør where Shakespeare's Hamlet is set.

Taking into account the demanding nature of editor life, we've put together a program that combines work and play. While the schedule is intense, we've ensured time for rest, relaxation and plenty of Danish ‘hygge’ on the way. Our goal is for you to feel at home while you’re here, and get the most possible out of your time in Denmark.

PRACTICAL INFO

Copenhagen Editors’ Fellowship runs from Tuesday evening on 19th August until Friday afternoon, 22nd August. The Danish Arts Foundation covers hotel, transport and meal expenses for this period.

You also have the option to extend your stay to the weekend, 22nd - 24th August, to attend Louisiana Literature at your own leisure.

If you choose to stay on for the weekend, the Danish Arts Foundation will cover your personal hotel expenses for those two nights, as well as your travel home. Feel free to invite family or a +1 along for the weekend at your own expense, as several former fellows have done.
