What you need to know before applying
It is important that you inform yourself thoroughly before applying to the Danish Arts Foundation. To apply successfully, you need to understand the eligibility criteria and how to submit a application.
Getting started
Do you want to apply for support for your art project or a work-related grant?
Please keep the following in mind:
- Read the fund guidelines carefully.
- If the application requires templates/appendices, please use the ones in the ‘What must the application include?’ section of the guidelines. However, they will only be available if the fund you are applying to requires them. Note that your application will not be considered if you do not use the mandatory templates/appendices.
- Submit your application well in advance of the deadline. This makes it possible for us to help you - for example, if you have technical challenges.
- Please note that you need to log in to the Grant portal using the correct MitID (the secure electronic ID [eID] system in Denmark). If you log in as a private person you will receive any grant paid to your private NemKonto. (A NemKonto is an ordinary bank account designated to receive payments directly from Danish public authorities.) If you apply as an organisation using a company registration (CVR) number, you can read about whether you must use MitID Erhverv (a digital ID for all types of organisations in Denmark) at the Agency for Digital Government's website.

Worth noting:
- It is not possible to apply from a smartphone.
- The Grant portal works best in Chrome and Firefox. If you experience problems, you can try to delete all cookies and clear the cache, and then restart your browser.
- Once you have created your profile in the Grant portal, you can log in at any time to check whether you have all appendices and information there before you submit the application.
- Before the expiry of the application deadline, you can edit an already-submitted application and submit a new version on the same case. Please remember to attach all appendices again.
- After the expiry of the application deadline, you can no longer edit your application.
- It is always the latest application that you have submitted to us that is processed by the committee
- Your attached appendices must not exceed a total of 25 MB.
- The attached appendices must be in the following formats: PDF, Word, MP3 and MP4. We do not accept ZIP files.
- Your application must include all mandatory appendices in order to be processed by the committee. Further material in addition to what is described in the application guidelines will not be considered in the assessment of your application.
- Appendices that you send after the expiry of the application deadline will not be attached to your application.
- You are personally responsible for completing the application form correctly, and that all of the appendices are attached.
- If you are exempt from Digital Post or due to very special conditions cannot use the digital self-service solution, please write an e-mail to post@slks.dk
- Generally, funds open for applications no later than one month before the deadline.
The Grant portal - log in and support
Applications to the Danish Arts Foundation must be submitted through the Grant portal. This is also where you receive replies and communicate with us about your application.
Log in using MitID
The Grant portal requires you to log in using MitID. If you apply as a private person, you must use your personal MitID. If you apply on behalf of an association, company, institution or the like.

You can't transfer your application – and any grant – to another legal person or business. Therefore, it is important that you clarify who the applicant is before you submit your application. At the same time, you must ensure that the ‘NemKonto’ (all citizens and companies registered in Denmark are required to have a NemKonto bank account) is related to the company registration (CVR) number that you use.
You have the following possibilities in the Grant portal:
- You can create and submit your application.
- You can receive grant approvals/rejections.
- You can contact us about your application.
- You can submit a report for your grant.
When your application has been submitted
When you have submitted your application to the Grant portal, you will receive a screen receipt, which you can download. You can, however, always see your application and its status in the Grant portal under ‘My applications’. When it has been submitted, its status is ‘Submitted’.
You will not receive a receipt email when you have submitted your application.
You can always see the appendices that you have attached to the application in the Grant portal. It is your own responsibility to ensure that the mandatory appendices have been included in the submission, so please review your application carefully.
You may edit your application even though you have already submitted it, as long as you do so before the expiry of the deadline.
Remember to make sure that all necessary appendices are attached, also when you edit your application. The committees only consider the latest submitted application.
If you need to contact a case processor in the secretariat, you must do so by using the contact button for your case in the Grant portal.
Grant portal help
You can read about the following on the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces’ websites:
How we process your application
When we have received your application for support for your art project or a work-related grant, the relevant professional art committee in the Danish Arts Foundation will assess your application.
The committee members assess all applications based on the criteria stated in the fund guidelines.
Reply regarding your application
You will receive a reply regarding your application in the Grant portal about whether your grant has been approved or your application has been rejected within 12 weeks. If you subscribe to ‘Notification’ in the Grant portal you will receive an email saying that there is a reply in the portal. During the period until this happens, all applications will be made ready and sent to the committee and then read and processed.
What happens when you are awarded a grant?
There may be a big difference between the type of your grant or whether you get a work-related grant. It is therefore important that you read your grant approval carefully so that you comply with the requirements and avoid having to pay your grant back.
If you receive a smaller project funding amount than what you applied for, please read in your grant notification letter whether you should submit more information before we can pay your grant.
How we pay
You must have a NemKonto account so that we can pay the amount. We pay to the NemKonto that is associated with the civil registration (CPR) number or business registration (CVR) number that you use to log in and apply with.
For example, if you apply with a new CVR number, you must ensure that you have a NemKonto related to it.
If you are a foreign applicant and do not have the right to have a MitID, you can have a grant paid to your foreign account. In such cases, you must submit either a:
- bank information form for countries with IBAN
- or the bank information form for countries without IBAN
If you just have moved from Denmark but still have the right to have a MitID, you can connect your NemKonto to a foreign bank.

When do we pay?
- For project grants for DKK 100,000 or less, the money will be paid as closely as possible to the start date you have provided for your expense period. You should therefore adjust the start date for your project with the date when your first expenses for the project are due.
- For project grants for more than DKK 100,000 with a project period longer than six months, we will pay in instalments.
- We pay work-related grants no later than three weeks after you have received your grant approval letter.
Your grant will be reported to the Danish tax agency (SKAT). It is mandatory for us to report it. This is done whether or not you are obligated to pay tax on the support. Most of our grants are reported with the Danish Labour Market Contribution (AM-bidrag). However, work-related grants are reported without the Danish Labour Market Contribution (AM-bidrag).
Do you need to report?
When the Danish Arts Foundation awards grants, it is important, and not least legally required, that the money is used precisely for what you have applied to use it on. Therefore, you need to report to the Danish Arts Foundation according to specific guidelines. In some cases, you must send a declaration and in other cases you must provide a complete account – it depends on the size of the amount and the type of grant you have received.
How you report depends on how large the grant you have received is. Your grant approval letter states whether you, for example, must report or send a declaration. If you have any doubts, you can always contact the secretariat via the Grant portal.
