Sailing artwork inaugurated

Now you can sail to and from the Danish island, Ærø, in a floating work of art.

In the past few weeks, the artist duo, Randi & Katrine, has been busy turning the M/F Ærøskøbing ferry into one huge work of art. The work is nothing less than a total artistic makeover of the ferry that, by virtue of being subjected to a full exterior paint job, has been embellished with various exotic elements that challenge the traveller’s customary image of the island ferry. Yes, there are still cars up on the car deck, but what about those palm trees? Now it’s now up to the ferry’s passengers to let themselves be inspired to make a mental journey to a remote destination.

With this, the second of what will be three pieces has finally been brought forth into realization. These are the three artworks that sprang from the “Vores Kunst” [Our Art] competition, which the Danish Arts Foundation, the National Arts Council and Denmark’s Radio collaboratively produced back in 2011.

About Randi and Katrine

The artist duo, Randi & Katrine, consists of Randi Jørgensen (born in 1974) and Katrine Malinovsky (born in 1976), both of whom graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 and both of whom reside in Copenhagen. Since the collaboration was established in 2005, Randi & Katrine have managed to create an extensive series of sculptures and installations that examine the relationship between space and narratives. The artists have several solo exhibitions behind them, both in Denmark and abroad, and their work is now represented in the collections of ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum and KØS Museum of Art in the Public Space. They have previously created permanent works for the public space in places like Ballerup, Sorø, Esbjerg and Copenhagen in Denmark, as well as in South Korea.
