Honouring two young translators

The ability to translate has as much to do with daring to break the rules once in a while, as it has to do with mastering the language. In any case, this is what the young translator, Katrine Øgaard Jensen, says.

Michal van Zelm and Katrine Øgaard Jensen were both honoured with translation awards in 2018.

The young translator, Katrine Øgaard Jensen, received the prestigious American Literary Translators Association’s National Translation Award, for her American English translation of the critically acclaimed “3. årtusindes hjerte” (‘Third-Millennium Heart’) by Ursula Andkjær Olsen.

Two translation shooting star

Katrine is one of two young translators from Danish who were recently honoured with translation awards. The other translation shooting star is Michal van Zelm. He has been honoured for his Dutch translation of Josefine Klougart’s ‘En af os sover’ (‘One of us is sleeping’; in Dutch: ‘Een van ons slaapt’) when last week he was awarded the Dutch ‘Amy van Marken’ award for an "excellent translation from one of the Scandinavian languages”.

The Danish Arts Foundation works to bring Danish literature to the world – and therefore it is delightful to see when Danish literature is honoured abroad. We want to congratulate both translators!
