The names of the applicants for subsidies from the Danish Arts Foundation will be announced on the Danish Arts Foundation’s website at www.kunst.dk.
Purpose of the program
The purpose of the fund is to promote Danish literature abroad and promote cultural exchange with foreign literature in Denmark.
How your application will be evaluated?
Grants are available to Danish authors and foreign institutions to support the participation of Danish writers at literary festivals, readings and the promotion of the publication of works abroad. . Grants are also available, under the same conditions, for visits by foreign authors to Denmark and visits to Denmark by Danish authors who are permanently resident abroad. Grants can also be awarded translators of Danish literature to a meeting with the author.
Grants may be provided to cover or partially cover reasonable transport expenses using economy class, and the travel project is expected to be financed together with the applicant/sponsor. It is a prerequisite that the country of the invited participant contributes to accommodation.
In order to ensure that the fund can benefit as many authors as possible and to increase the geographic dispersion, grants are only available for transport. Grants are provided for the participation of no more than three authors in the same event, and grants are not offered in connection with a series of events; that is, more than three events by the same sponsor within one year. Funding for such activities must be sought from: Literary events and marketing abroad.
In the evaluation of the application, emphasis will be placed on:
- The author has published a work as the sole author by a publisher that is independent of the author financially and editorially.
- The purpose is to promote the author’s own authorship.
- The participant has been invited by the event sponsor or sponsors prior to applying.
Funding may not be sought for:
- Participation in a conference in the form of network activities unless the participation is part of direct promotion of the author’s own authorship on the basis of an invitation.
- Trips that have started at the time the application is made.
- The promotion of research and educational materials, regional and local historical works, crafts and hobby books, dictionaries, self-help books and catalogues.
When they apply to the fund in connection with the promotion of culture in Denmark, foreign representations and cultural institutions will be able to receive grants from the fund to only a very limited extent and only in case of projects in collaboration with Danish publishers.
Who will evaluate your application?
The Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Literary Project Funding.
How much you may apply for?
Funding may be applied for to cover reasonable transport costs using economy class. Expenses for hotel accommodation, subsistence allowance, author remuneration etc. are not covered, but are expected to be covered by the applicant or sponsor. See also the list of those who have received grants previously.
Due to the limited funding that the fund can provide, all other budgeted expenses for the trip must be covered by the applicant/sponsor as joint financing.
An additional DKK 2,500 may be applied for for the translation of a play, lyrics or prose in connection with readings abroad - or in Denmark in the case of foreign authors.
For readings and reading trips abroad, additional funding may also be provided to cover the travel expenses of the author’s translator in the country in which the readings are to take place.
The committee reserves the right to not allocate the full amount that is applied for, based on the overall priority that art subsidies must be provided to as many people and projects as possible.
