Purpose of the program

The Danish Arts Council Committee for Visual Arts sees it as its main purpose to support the production of new works of visual art to be exhibited in Denmark or abroad.

First and foremost the Committee wishes to provide support for those areas which cannot gain funding through other means. Grants for the production of works can only be sought by the individual artists themselves.

The committee wishes to provide grants to cover the costs to the artist of materials, practical or technical assistance etc.. Grants can also be awarded in the form of a subsistence allowance to support the artist during the production of the work/project (max. DKK 5000 for max. four (4) weeks).

How your application will be evaluated

The Danish Arts Council Committee for Visual Arts supports the following:

  • production of particularly ambitious works or works of a particularly comprehensive character
  • works which are displayed in a professional context accessible to the public
  • productions which represent a unique effort or a new departure for the artist in relation to his/her previous body of work

The committee places emphasis on:

  • Artistic experiments
  • Productions by upcoming artists
  • Diversity and a differentiated notion of art and the art work
  • Works produced for the following biennals: São Paulo, Istanbul, Manifesta, Gwangju, Liverpool, Sydney og Documenta (this list can be revised)

Grants are not available for:

  • public decorative art
  • works completed prior to the application deadline
  • rent of studio
  • students
