Visual Arts In Denmark

10th of December 2010

The Danish Arts Council has appointed the organisers of a major contemporary art festival to be held in Copenhagen in 2012.  Five art galleries will collaborate on the staging of the festival.  These are:

  •  Kunsthal Charlottenborg
  •  Den Frie, Centre for Contemporary Art
  •  Gl. Strand, Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art
  •  Nikolaj, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center
  •  Overgaden, Institute of Contemporary Art

These five galleries have been appointed on the basis of a competition run by the Danish Arts Council at the beginning of 2010.  Their appointment is accompanied by a grant from the Council of 6.7 million Danish kroner.

The International Contemporary Art Festival will take place in September 2012.  The aim of the festival is to make contemporary art accessible to a wider audience.  Festival events will, therefore, be held not only in the premises of the five institutions, but also in venues throughout the city of Copenhagen. This will make the festival one of the biggest art events to be staged in Denmark in 2012 and one which is expected to attract considerable international interest.  The festival will present works by a great many artists from all over the world.
