Mette Moestrup (b. 1969) made her debut in 1998 with the quietly mumbling poetry collection Tatoveringer (Tattoos) which in 2002 was followed by the differently enthusiastic and extrovert collection Golden Delicious; her great breakthrough arrived with Moestrup's third book, Kingsize, in 2000, a powerful presentation of quality, which deservedly brought her the newly founded Montana Prize for Literature.

Ursula Andkjær Olsen (born 1970) came crashing onto the literary scene with her debut book, Lulus sange og taler (Lulu’s Songs and Speeches, 2000), and no one had read anything like it before: a frisky and continuous, intelligent and nonsensical, philosophical and flirtatious babble at 250 kilometers an hour about the greatest and the least, and it was completely irresistible.
